Birth Certificate Requirements and Registration

Last year our LSC voted and approved a rule requiring a birth certificate or its equivalent to be presented to the registration chairman as our swimmers register with USA Swimming. This was implemented to clean up our records by having the correct information to create the swimming ID number.  All “returning swimmers” were to have submitted their birth certificates by December 31, 2001.  We still have quite a few returning swimmers that have not met this requirement.  I have had some teams tell me that there are no “teeth” to this rule and that they are having a hard time having their parents comply.  Here is your bite:

USA Swimming Rules and Regulations 302.3

Athlete membership forms may be obtained from the LSC registration chairman.  The form shall be fully completed and submitted with the fee set forth in 501.6 to the registration chairman of the LSC, which shall issue a registration card upon approval.  The registration chairman, exclusively, shall be authorized to receive and accept such application forms and the registration/membership shall not be in effect until so accepted.

Your grace period is now over.  All returning and new swimmers will comply with this rule if they want to be registered as a member of USA Swimming.

Team registrars will be informed if they have sent in registrations that are not correct and the registration chairman will issue a credit for the incorrect registrations.  We will no longer hold the registration process hostage by waiting for a team to send in the correct information.
